TEACHING EXPERIENCE

 

I have over ten years of experience teaching a wide variety of Spanish and English courses in Spain, England and the U.S. that range from translation and interpretation and Spanish for health professionals in several language schools, to Film Studies at the University of Cádiz and Spanish culture and language classes from beginning through advanced levels at Amherst College.

 

During the past four years at the University of Kentucky, I taught Spanish elementary to intermediate courses as well as courses such as Spanish for Business Professionals, Spanish and Latin American Business Environments and Spanish Composition through Textual Analysis.

 

I am currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Western Oregon University where I teach Spanish Composition and Conversation, Spanish Language and Literature for Bilingual/Heritage Speakers, Introduction to Translation and Interpreting and Spanish Translation Practicum.

(F) Intermediate Spanish Composition and Conversation (Span. 301)

 

Short Course Description: Intensive practice in speaking and writing the language. Oral reports and writing of original compositions. Reading includes selections of newspaper articles, short stories and the like. Conducted in Spanish. (Prerequisite: Span. 203, or equivalent).

Short Course escription: For speakers of Spanish as a first language who can read and write. Improve native speakers’ Spanish skills in spelling, grammar, reading, composition, translation and knowledge of the Hispanic world.

(W) Introduction to Translation and Interpreting (Span. 485)

This course combines an introduction to theories in translation and interpreting with exercises and hands-on activities that will teach the student the basic skills necessary to effectively translate and interpret. Students taking the course must be proficient in both English and Spanish. (Prerequisite: Span. 303 or Span. 319)

(S) Spanish Translation Practicum (Span. 486)

 

-Syllabus under revision-

 

Practice in applying language translation techniques. Development of the basic techniques needed for translation and interpretation. Considerable practice given to both translating into and from the native language (English/Spanish). Emphasis will be placed on command of appropriate professional lexicon and awareness of the relationship between language and culture. (Prerequisite: Span. 485, or consent of instructor).
